Haunted Halloween Trail tickets go on sale today at noon
Newmarket’s Haunted Halloween Trail runs October 22, 23 and 24 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Dave Kerwin Trail, entering through Environmental Park at 325 Woodspring Avenue. Tickets are $5 per person and go on sale October 5 at noon. The approximately one-kilometre walk is designed to be frightening, is recommended for ages 10+ and requires children 12 and under to attend with a parent or guardian.

More than 500 new rental homes are moving through York Region’s pipeline
York Region reported on September 24 that its permanent Community Housing Supply Grant—supported by an additional one-time investment of about $30 million in 2025—has helped move more than 500 new rental homes into pre-development or construction. The Region also highlighted 97 subsidized and market-rental homes opened in Whitchurch-Stouffville in 2025 and approximately 90 planned units in Georgina. These figures describe longer-term supply, not homes currently available to rent.

Mulock Park is now open—here’s what visitors can use
Newmarket’s 16-acre Mulock Park opened to the public on September 18. The free four-season destination at Yonge Street and Mulock Drive is open daily from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. and includes nearly two kilometres of paved trails, a natural play area, public art, an AGO-partnered gallery, free parking and a 340-metre refrigerated skate loop for winter. Registered programs are scheduled to begin this fall; check the Town’s page for current amenity hours.

August brought Newmarket sellers less fresh competition
TRREB recorded 83 Newmarket sales, 160 new listings and 4.2 months of inventory in August, with an average selling price of $1,048,321. Sales were nearly unchanged from July’s 82, while new listings fell from 331 during the typical late-summer slowdown. Buyers still had meaningful choice, but well-prepared sellers faced fewer newly listed competitors.

Ontario finalizes enhanced HST relief for qualifying new homes
CRA’s August guidance confirms combined provincial HST relief of up to $80,000 for eligible new or substantially renovated Ontario homes used as a primary residence. A related Ontario affordability payment may provide up to $50,000 more. For most builder purchases, the agreement must be signed from April 1, 2026 through March 31, 2027, and the home must be valued below $1.85 million; detailed conditions and deadlines apply.

Bank of Canada holds at 2.25% as fixed-rate pressure remains
The Bank maintained its overnight rate at 2.25%, leaving the benchmark affecting variable-rate mortgages unchanged. It also noted that Canadian long-term bond yields had risen since July, so fixed mortgage offers may still move with bond markets and individual lender pricing.
